The Ship vol.4 – The Island – 2018

About This Project

In June 2018 we continued working with The Ship in a two week residency on the island of Terschelling in the Netherlands, which resulted in 8 performances of The Ship vol.4 at the Netherlands biggest music and performing arts festival, Oerol Festival.

The Ship is a series of productions with an inner coherence, created in dialogue with selected sites over the course of several years. Working with technology, nature and cultural imprints, the production pivots on the theme of hubris. The Ship and the journey represent hope of survival, a new land and a new future.

The Ship vol. 4 is influenced by our previous visits to mythology researcher Enrique Pardo in Maléraques in France, retraumatizing warfare in “Auka Røyd” in the deep Norwegian forests, performing ethnocentric myths of Greenland in Nuuk, and making an operatic unsuccessful rescue in Oslo.
