This performance is based on the story of «Jimmy Young», a character who was created by the actor Torbjørn Davidsen and video artist Joachim Hamou. Davidsen dressed up in the role of Jimmy, and closely followed by Hamou behind the camera he set off on a sort of reverse educational trip lasting for ten years. Using a false press card they travelled to places like the Cannes Film Festival, visited the spiritual leader of the Sufis in Egypt, saw beggars and rich people in New York and visited Inuits and drunken soldiers in Greenland. With the aid of a film camera and microphone Jimmy attracted both young and old people who threw themselves into his story in their eagerness to promote themselves.
Now that Torbjørn Davidsen and De Utvalgte are taking Jimmy down from the film screen and onto the stage we experience the story of an adventure seeker who has legitimised his unscrupulous way of life by engaging in an unlimited artistic search for the authenticity of his role. Wearing Jimmy’s shoes, Davidsen has staged spectacular situations from his own life without thought for the consequences of his actions – when he comes face to face with unpleasantness he has always been able to move on. However, as he gradually empties the bottle, life starts to make demands in return.
JIMMY YOUNG had its premiere at the Black Box Theatre in January 2007 in a joint production with the theatre.
